Building a home with Matt Lowry was a very calm, clear, thoughtful, and overall delightful experience. My husband and I picked out our lot in October, 2007. By December 2007 the foundation was laid. We were living in Houston and came to Wimberley about once a month to check on the progress. Matt always met us and would answer any questions that we had. We were fully informed about every building, decorating, lighting, appliance, etc. detail. There were no hidden costs or surprises. Any extras that we wanted were carefully noted and priced. We looked forward to each monthly visit. We moved in the end of May 2008. The house turned out even more beautiful than we had anticipated. Matt is a stickler for detail, He and Karl meticulously made certain that the interior and exterior were perfect. All our friends and family remark about the high quality of the materials, the lovely ceilings, floors, fixtures and windows. The house is full of light and grace – it’s exactly what we wanted. Matt is an exceptional builder and a truly wonderful and honest young man.

It is our pleasure describe our experience in building our custom home with Matt Lowry of Somerset Homes. We first spoke to Matt after our real estate agent, who worked with us on the purchase of our lot, referred him. We met with Matt and instantly noticed his calm demeanor and friendly personality. He visited our lot with us, and spent lots of time going over the placement of a home on the lot considering the trees present, the view available, setback lines required by the City, water drainage and many other factors. We decided at that meeting that we wanted Matt for our builder. He really gets excited about planning the best use of the lot and plans that could be accommodated on said lot.
We had ideas about what style of home we wanted, but we were limited since our home is on a somewhat steeply-sloping property. Matt helped us so much with his expertise and experience, telling us just what aspects would work and which would not. We came up with a design together, and Matt called upon his designers to draw the home to scale with all our wishes in mind. We were really wanting an open floor plan which incorporated living/dining/kitchen, and Matt let us know what expense would be incurred for the ceiling beams to support such a structure. He also gave us totals of what our foundation would cost prior to building and other costs that would be out of the ordinary due to the shape and slop of our building site. He also took photographs of the progress when we could not be here, which was really appreciated. Matt made it possible for us to do as little or as much as we wanted to make the home truly our own and referred us to custom cabinet makers and gave us samples of different countertop granite. We discussed stained concrete colors, moldings, door hardware, bathroom fittings, exterior colors and masonry, windows, tile and the list goes on. He integrated our ideas seamlessly into the home. He was always available to us and kept us updated by e-mail and phone. He offered any options that one might want, such as security systems, water softening systems, upgraded fireplaces, upgraded tubs and showers, elevated decks, and many other custom options. We met with Matt several times at his office to be sure we were on the same page, and this kept the work flowing, not ever having to “undo” any part of the construction. Matt completed our home on time, in fact, we were surprised when he called to say we could move in.
Matt Lowry is a man who is ethical and honest, and we now consider him not only our builder, but our friend. He’s the only builder in the area that consistently comes up in conversation as being a great guy and an accomplished builder as well. He never rushes your conversation, is always available and stands behind his homes. Matt’s “right-hand man”, Karl Knutsen, is also really friendly and knowledgeable, and we have also enjoyed getting to know him and his work. Matt is hard-working innovative, a joy to deal with, builds a super home at a great price, and we are happy to be able to recommend him.
